Which Has Been Around Longer Coffee Or Tea?
This is an interesting question that we can only rely on history to reveal the answer to. Both coffee and tea may have been around forever. But, when it was introduced as a drink to society is another question altogether. The first mention of coffee as a drink is found in the year 1000 A.D. When members of the Galla tribe in Ethiopia found when they ate a particular berry ground up, mixed with animal fat it gave them an energy boost. That same year Arab leaders took coffee back to their homeland, began to boil the beans making a drink they called "qahwa", (meaning that which prevents sleep). First coffee house in the world opens in Turkey in 1475. Tea also has a long-standing history of consumption. History tells us that tea began its history of consumption in ancient China over 5,000 years ago. When an early emperor, Shen Nung, skilled ruler and creative scientist boiled water as a hygienic precaution, and used dried tea leaves for flavor. However, the first known teahouse did not open until the 1600s in London. This question is one that has been asked for centuries, the answer depends on who you ask. I'll stick to my coffee!
